BuyCrypto.asia editorial team Data checked: October 2026 Updated:

Choosing a crypto exchange in Taiwan starts with “is it legal?”, not “is it cheapest?”. Under Article 6 of the Money Laundering Control Act, virtual asset service providers must complete AML registration with the FSC before serving customers. The ranking below includes only registered providers; the one international platform is listed separately and clearly marked as not registered with the FSC. If you haven't decided how to buy yet, start with our guide to buying Bitcoin in Taiwan.

01Legal crypto exchanges in Taiwan, ranked (2026)

Scores combine five factors: registration status and company background, TWD pairs and liquidity, fee transparency, TWD deposits and withdrawals, and website and app experience. MAX and BitoPro fees come from their official fee pages; app ratings are from the Taiwan App Store on 1 October 2026. Fees change, so check the official site.

  1. Top registered pick · widest choice

    MAX ExchangeMaiCoin group · 現代財富科技

One of Taiwan's two big TWD on-ramps, with 46 assets and 45 TWD markets. Base VIP0 fees are 0.08% maker and 0.16% taker, falling to a negative maker fee (a rebate) at VIP9; staking the MAX token lifts your tier, and paying withdrawal fees in MAX gets 10% off. The group's MaiCoin app offers simple buy and sell.

    • VIP0 0.08% / 0.16%
    • 45 TWD markets
    • Taiwan App Store 4.05★
    • AML registration completed
  2. BitoPro幣託科技 · approval 金管證券字第1140350594號

The other major TWD on-ramp. Its app has the best rating of any local exchange in the Taiwan App Store: 4.62★ from more than 5,200 reviews. TWD deposits are free, withdrawals cost NT$30 (minimum NT$100), and new users can deposit up to NT$100,000 a day. It supports Far Eastern Bank Bankee USD accounts and TTCheck gift cards, and sister brand BitoEX sells crypto at convenience stores.

    • VIP0 0.1% / 0.2%, 20% off with BITO
    • TWD deposit free · withdrawal NT$30
    • 19 TWD pairs
    • Grid bot 0.05%
  3. HOYA BIT禾亞數位科技

Built around one-tap TWD purchases with a clean interface; the app is rated 4.54★ in the Taiwan App Store (about 550 reviews). It has completed FSC AML registration. Its fee page is rendered by JavaScript and we could not verify the rates, so check them in the app before you start.

    • One-tap TWD buys
    • App 4.54★
    • Check fees on the official site
  4. XREX鏈科股份有限公司

Aimed mainly at businesses, with a focus on USD–TWD stablecoin remittance and settlement — useful for small firms and freelancers with cross-border payments. For an individual simply buying Bitcoin, MAX and BitoPro have more coins and deeper liquidity.

    • Stablecoin cross-border settlement
    • Business-focused
    • Registered
  5. ZONE Wallet拓荒數碼科技

A registered provider combining a wallet with trading. Public information is thin and we could not verify fees or the coin list on an official page. Fine if you already use its wallet; not our pick for a first exchange.

This list comes from the Securities and Futures Bureau's VASP registration page and the FSC PDF published on 29 September 2026, re-checked by us in October 2026. The official list does not include web addresses; the website column shows each provider's own domain, and where we could not confirm one, rely on the SFB list.

04Crypto exchange fees in Taiwan

On Taiwanese exchanges, the gap between maker and taker fees matters. A market order or the simple buy screen means you pay the taker fee or a spread; a limit order that waits for a match costs less. The chart shows base-tier (VIP0) published rates.

  • MAX · maker0.08%
  • BitoPro · maker0.10%
  • MAX · taker0.16%
  • BitoPro · taker0.20% (20% off with BITO)
  • CEX.IO spot · taker (not registered)0.25%
  • CEX.IO card (not registered)0.49%–4.99% + service charge

Beyond trading fees, look at deposits and withdrawals. BitoPro charges nothing for TWD deposits and NT$30 per withdrawal; check MAX's current withdrawal fee on its site. If you withdraw small amounts often, this can cost more than trading. When moving USDT between exchanges, pick the right network — coins sent on the wrong chain are usually gone. 05Barred and unregistered platforms: ACE, Binance, Pionex

Judge's gavel on a Bitcoin, representing FSC enforcement against unregistered exchanges in Taiwan

After the September 2025 registration deadline, the SFB published a list of 17 former “compliance declaration” firms that did not complete AML registration and may no longer provide virtual asset services. They include ACE Exchange (王牌數位創新), 幣世代科技, 亞太易安特科技, the Taiwan branch of a BVI company 沃亨科技, 幣想科技, 桑費斯特 and 萃科科技.

If you ever opened an account with ACE or another barred platform, withdraw your assets now. The other group is the big offshore platforms that never registered in Taiwan: Binance, OKX, Bybit, Pionex, Crypto.com, Coinbase and Kraken are all absent from the list. Their apps are still downloadable — Binance has more than 58,000 ratings in the Taiwan App Store, far more than any local exchange — but popularity is not legality. Under current rules, unregistered providers may not offer virtual asset services in Taiwan, and once the Virtual Asset Service Act takes effect, unlicensed operation can bring up to seven years in prison.

Plenty of people like Pionex's grid bots or Binance's derivatives, and we get it. But these are high-risk tools on platforms the FSC does not supervise. The risks are explained in our guides to crypto trading bots and spot vs futures.

06International platforms: you can sign up, but they aren't regulated in Taiwan

Taiwan is not on CEX.IO's list of restricted countries, and its app is in the Taiwan App Store (4.28★). We list it as the international option for card purchases — but read its position carefully first.

  1. Editor's pick for card purchases (not FSC-registered)

    CEX.IOFounded 2013 · accepts Taiwan users

Long-running international exchange where you can buy with Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay; US FinCEN-registered MSB (NMLS 1804170) with money-transmitter licences in 30+ states, PCI DSS Level 1. It has not completed AML registration with Taiwan's FSC: Taiwan users are served by CEX OVRS LLC (Nevis), with no protection under Taiwanese rules and no TWD support.

    • Card 0.49%–4.99% + service charge
    • Spot 0.15% / 0.25%
    • Fiat USD · EUR · GBP
    • Taiwan App Store 4.28★

07How to check that a Taiwanese exchange is registered

  1. Open the SFB registration list

Find the virtual asset service provider AML registration page on the Securities and Futures Bureau site, or download the latest FSC PDF.

  2. Match the company name, not just the brand

MAX is registered as 現代財富科技, BitoPro as 幣託科技. Brands can be cloned; company names and tax ID numbers are harder to fake.

  3. Check the “barred” list

The same page lists the 17 firms that failed to register and may no longer provide services. Make sure your platform is not among them.

  4. Download only from official channels

Use the official site or app store. BitoPro and others run “official channel verification” pages for checking support accounts and web addresses.

  5. Be wary of “exclusive platforms” in chat groups

If someone in a LINE group or on social media pushes a platform that is not on the list, it is almost certainly a scam. When in doubt, call the 165 anti-fraud hotline.

FAQ

Which crypto exchanges are legal in Taiwan?

As of 29 September 2026, the FSC's Securities and Futures Bureau lists 11 providers with completed AML registration: HOYA BIT, ZONE Wallet, KryptoGO, MAX (MaiCoin), TWEX, Chainss / Atrix, BitoPro, XREX, TSG EX, Liminal and BitstreetX. KryptoGO handles transfers only and Liminal custody only, so the retail exchanges are mainly MAX, BitoPro and HOYA BIT.

What is the best crypto exchange in Taiwan?

For most people, MAX or BitoPro. MAX has the most TWD markets and lower base fees (0.08% maker / 0.16% taker). BitoPro has the best-rated app, free TWD deposits, NT$30 withdrawals and convenience-store buying through BitoEX. HOYA BIT suits one-tap buyers; XREX suits businesses that need cross-border stablecoin payments.

Can I still use ACE Exchange?

We would not. ACE Exchange (王牌數位創新) did not complete AML registration by the deadline, and the SFB lists it, together with 16 other firms, as no longer allowed to provide virtual asset services. If you still hold assets there, withdraw them and move to a registered exchange.

Are Binance and Pionex legal in Taiwan?

Binance, OKX, Bybit, Pionex, Crypto.com, Coinbase and Kraken are not on the FSC's AML registration list. Under current rules, unregistered providers may not offer virtual asset services in Taiwan. Their apps can still be downloaded, but users get no protection under Taiwanese rules, and offshore gains may need to be declared under the Alternative Minimum Tax.
