An independent team that only covers Asia

BuyCrypto.asia is run by an independent editorial team with a long-standing focus on crypto markets, payments and financial regulation across Asia. We are not an exchange, and we are not owned by any exchange, wallet maker or investment firm. Whenever you read "we" on this site, it means the BuyCrypto.asia editorial team.

The reason for the site is simple: there is no single crypto market in Asia. Hong Kong and Singapore run strict licensing regimes, Japan only recognises firms on the Financial Services Agency register, Korea requires a real-name bank account, India has one of the heaviest crypto tax regimes in the world, and mainland China, Bangladesh and Myanmar ban or restrict trading outright. Yet most "how to buy crypto" tutorials assume the reader lives in the US or Europe. We wanted a set of guides that starts from where you actually live.

What we do

We cover 19 Asian markets, and our work falls into four kinds of content:

  • Country guides — the regulator, licensed platforms, local payment rails, tax and legal status in each market, with links to the official registers. Start at countries.
  • Platform and wallet reviews — we go through sign-up, verification, deposit, purchase and withdrawal on desktop and mobile, then score against our published methodology.
  • Payments and fees — the real cost of cards, Apple Pay, local instant transfers and P2P, covered in payment methods and exchange fees.
  • Safety and risk — checking a licence, spotting scams, storing a seed phrase, and what past collapses teach us, in exchange safety.

Editorial independence

Our scores come from a published set of criteria: licence and legality, costs, security, website and app experience, availability and local rails in Asia, and support and withdrawals. We take no payment from any platform, so nothing moves those numbers. If a platform receives a regulator warning, gets blocked in a country or suffers a security incident, we report it.

We work from primary sources: regulator registers and announcements, the text of the law, and platforms' own fee pages and terms. Secondary reporting is attributed, and anything we cannot verify is either left out or clearly marked as reported.

How the site is run

BuyCrypto.asia is free to read. We do not earn commissions or any other payment from the links on the site; links to exchanges and platforms are ordinary outbound links. The main buttons across the site go to an international exchange founded in 2013 (CEX.IO). It is scored with the same methodology as everyone else, and on pages for countries whose residents it does not accept — Japan, Singapore and India, for example — we say so plainly.

Languages and readers

The site's primary language is Simplified Chinese, with a full English edition; Japanese and Korean versions are in preparation. Our readers are spread across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the rest of Asia and the diaspora, so we quote local currencies and terms. All language versions share the same facts, but each is written independently rather than machine-translated.

FAQ

Is BuyCrypto.asia an exchange?

No. We are an independent information website. We do not match trades, hold assets, open accounts or buy and sell on anyone's behalf. Your sign-up, deposits and trades on any platform are a relationship between you and that platform, and we cannot see or act on your account.

Can platforms pay to influence your rankings?

No. We do not earn commissions or any other payment from any platform, and no platform can pay for a ranking position, a score or a favourable review; scores follow our published methodology.

How often is the content updated?

We check regulator registers, platform fees and country availability every month, and update affected pages as soon as possible after major events such as a licence being revoked, a platform pausing service or a hack. Every page shows when its data was last checked.

Ready for your first coin?

Sign-up and ID checks take a few minutes; then you can buy Bitcoin, Ether or USDT with a card or Apple Pay.
